My favorite classic black metal band is Mayhem. My favorite newer band is Watain. My favorite local band is [Black Fucking Cancer](https://blackfuckingcancer.bandcamp.com/) Most bands on the banned list are fucking great. They're banned because if they weren't this sub would be swamped by posts about those bands. Black metal is also more than just music. The scene is important. I don't know where you live, but look around for local bands and shows. Listening to black metal on record is great, and seeing Mayhem at a mid-sized club is great, but going to a dingy little warehouse that's full of fog and almost no lighting with 30 people who are REALLY into it is a whole other experience in itself. I just the other day started working on a Black Metal spotify playlist. Right now it's just like 4 bands or so, but I'll be adding a lot to it over time.
