i listen to two genres mainly. Progressive Post-Hardcore, and hip-hop. theres little bits of EDM and random other music thrown in the mix, but these are my daily go-to genres. when it comes to hip-hop, rap, RnB, etc, im really into artists that show some sort of animated personality in their voice, have really smart lines that you may have to think twice about, rhyme creatively, and generally cover smarter, deeper subject matters. For those unfamiliar with the genre, its typically categorized by a high register singing, and harsh screaming vocals over (usually) downtuned guitars. the cool part is that its "progressive" so theres a lot of genre bending. some bands incorporate RnB sections, raps, latin/ spanish parts, the instrumentation is typically very technical and difficult - or sometimes its very easy and intricate sounding, theres a heavy use of effect pedals both with guitars and vocals, a lot of the music is sometimes part of a concept or a theme, or in many cases, presented as a concept album. this is my favorite genre because theres so much thought that goes into it beyond just writing good enjoyable songs. --- here's my usual go-to Spotify playlists (that need some real updating, tbh) rap/hip hop stuff https://open.spotify.com/user/tehpenguinking/playlist/1A6bc90t9QcFvzoI6oJvph Progressive Post-Hardcore https://open.spotify.com/user/tehpenguinking/playlist/1EfephrZUe0oz7GAW4vvUx https://open.spotify.com/user/tehpenguinking/playlist/6966K06Ol6miQ4eXZYh7sm *** *** the second one is focused on bands that inspired/ birthed a small suibgenre/ subculture known as Swancore. the first playlist mainly is fulled with bands that are actually in that subgenre and were more or less a by-product or influenced by the bands mostly in the other playlist.
