I have found that while in that hyper-present state I can stretch my mind into habits/areas I think will benefit me longer term. Trips with eyes closed are nice - I've added a variety of practices that seem to draw the positive benefits on mood and outlook out more. I recognize many people say that the drug along does all the work but I've definitely found the opportunity to use that state beneficial. Pre trip. Have a notebook and pen dedicated to your sessions on hand. Make three spaces, a laying, a sitting, a playing. Queue the playlist at the bottom of this post. Take. During come up. Write as little or as much as you want but include two things. The statement "I intend to... ", for example "I intend to open myself to the space around me this session." And the statement: "I am cultivating gratitude for..." pausing to feel that gratitude after you write each of them, for example "I am grateful for my cats. I am grateful for the opportunity to talk to Sam this week. I am grateful for the feeling of my breath." Then the world is open. Take practices you see as possibly healthy or interesting and do them a little. Maintain a focus on the playful nature of the experience and opportunity to make of it what you want. Some things I do: - walk in circles as I ponder something - sit in a meditative pose, back straight, and try any practice from Google - get crayola markers and a giant paper pad and scribble - get on the yoga mat and just stretch in weird poses - lay flat on your back and feel the ground - lose yourself in the music, see how your emotions flow with the music, and how your thoughts can influence that - think about your intention One thing I've realized is that the amount of stuff going on in my subconscious is huge compared to my conscious brain. So for me it's about putting myself in a generally positive environment and letting it flow.
