Of course it depends on your taste, but here are a few artists I like (mostly pop, a lot of 'chanson' music which is a generic term for French music focusing on singing and lyrics). A spotify playlist I'd recommend is \['Chanson Française'\]([https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWTIykNHRogOx?si=jwp\_DsVtS6qPa0CTiieKvw](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWTIykNHRogOx?si=jwp_DsVtS6qPa0CTiieKvw)), I've discovered a few artists I really like by listening to it. * Yelle - more electronic and synth-pop - they've been around since the late 2000s and I think they still hold up * Suzanne - a new artist, electro-pop * Stromae - sort of electronic and hip-hop - his album 'racine carrée' was very popular in 2013 but he hasn't done much since * Tim Dup - 'chanson' pop but with some electronic influences, pretty chill/melancholic * Voyou - indie-pop folkish vibes * Pomme - traditional acoustic-ish 'chanson' pop * Juliette Armanet - chill 'chanson' pop * Julien Doré - chill, airy, hipster-ish 'chanson' pop - he's been around since about 2011 and he's pretty well known in France IMO * Therapie TAXI - rock/hip-hop/pop - their first album 'Hit Sale' was pretty successful * Léa Paci - 'chanson' style pop * Angèle - pop with some electronic/synth-pop influences - her album 'Brol' was the best selling album in France in 2019 * Mylène Farmer - a very well known 'diva' popular since the 80s/90s, I'd recommend her if you like music from that era (a bit similar to ABBA but with more electronic influences maybe?) * Yseult - 'chanson' pop but more modern, has some songs with more or less hip-hop or electronic influence * Alma (not the British artist with green hair but the French one) - pop, sometimes chanson sometimes not - she was in eurovision in 2017 but despite that her album from back then is solid (IMO) * Laurie Darmon - pop in a few different styles - Alma and Laurie Darmon have also released some music as a duo under the name 'BB Jean' * Christine and the Queens - experimental pop, a bit of 'chanson' as well as electronic influences - she's pretty popular in Britain as well as France so she has music in both English and French * Hervé - electronic with a bit of funk and synth-pop influences, pretty retro-chic - he released his debut album a few months ago * Vendredi sur Mer - chill alternative music, a bit experimental and a bit 'chanson' * Vianney - chanson, a bit folkish * Joyce Jonathan - pop, also a bit folkish
