I got curious of what an all-cover songs Beatle album would sound like so I made a playlist of the cover songs from the 63-65 period when they regularly featured covers on their official releases. The result? Well, there are a few highlights, but **not** the greatest collection of songs. There's a reason The Beatles got famous on the merit of their own songs rather than as a cover band. If you have any interest, here's the playlist: [Rock and Roll Music](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3aKuxrP7N3Xko4DNKnware?si=b9f5acdaa1bc4014) 1. **Rock and Roll Music** covered from Chuck Berry 1. **Anna (Go to Him)** covered from Arthur Alexander 1. **Til There Was You** covered from Anita Bryant 1. **Money (That’s What I Want)** covered from Barrett Strong 1. **A Taste of Honey** covered from Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass 1. **Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby** covered from Carl Perkins 1. **Boys** covered from The Shirelles 1. **Please Mr. Postman** covered from The Marvelettes 1. **Baby It’s You** covered from The Shirelles 1. **Dizzy Miss Lizzy** covered from Larry Williams 1. Matchbox covered from Carl Perkins 1. **Kansas City / Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey** covered from Wilbert Harrison / Little Richard 1. **Long Tall Sally** covered from Little Richard 1. **You Really Got a Hold on Me** covered from The Miracles 1. **Chains** covered from The Cookies 1. **Devil in Her Heart** covered from The Donays 1. **Slow Down** covered from Larry Williams 1. **Act Naturally** covered from Buck Owens & The Buckaroos 1. **Roll Over Beethoven** covered from Chuck Berry 1. **Honey Don't** covered from Carl Perkins 1. **Mr. Moonlight** covered from Dr. Feelgood & The Interns 1. **Bad Boy** covered from Larry Williams 1. **Words of Love** covered from Buddy Holly 1. **Twist and Shout** covered from The Isley Brothers But the process of compiling and researching was kinda fun. I found it interesting who they were proudly claiming as inspirations. Way more girl groups than I would have expected and way more black performers than white. Although most artists only got covered once, there were a few artists they covered multiple times: * Carl Perkins (3) * Larry Williams (3) * Chuck Berry (2) * Little Richard (2) * The Shirelles (2) John is singing lead on most of these (13), Paul and Ringo are tied at 4, with George taking lead on 3. --- As for the cover, obviously it is a direct ripoff of the American *The Beatles' Second Album*. Mainly, the multiple pictures provided the opportunity to feature their inspirations. But since so many of those early American releases tended to slice and dice their original recordings so much, and these inspirations were almost all American, I thought it would be an fitting design.
