Just finished reading “For Whom The Cowbell Tolls” which is Dan Leroy’s updated and expanded book on Paul’s Boutique. It’s an extremely comprehensive history of the album and the people who helped the Beasties make it. One of the chapters describes mixtape culture and philosophy and then provides an in depth analysis of a mixtape that Mike D made for friend Jeremy Shatan.
