Well, it originated as a sub genre of electronic music, and it was pretty much entirely using screwed 70s, 80s and 90s jazz and pop samples, which are then just remixed, reverbed and slowed down. Listen to [this](https://youtu.be/42WhTzwE5YY) to get an idea. However, since then, it’s also evolved into various other styles, and there has been a strong development of a visual art style, which commonly includes a cyan/magenta/white colour palette, Greco/Roman/Renaissance statue busts, setting suns and palm trees. Additionally, people also use vaporwave now to just be nostalgic about their past, and this has resulted in it commonly being used in conjunction with separate art styles like Outrun.
