Ah yes, it took me a while to get my CoC campaign good and creepy but in the end I did manage. Atmosphere helps; I made a few good playlists, I play with a ton of candle light and lately a kinda-kitchy-but-cool fake fireplace that has a green setting. The whole thing really sets the mood. Music honestly does a lot of heavy lifting though. The first time I genuinely creeped out my players is when I ran a homebrew The Terror (the TV show/book) derived (and some extra ghost possession and creepy murder content) D&D 5e campaign that I made [this custom playlist for.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5UKfbl59K2nCMM81Jm5TnD?si=3aceba613fac4cbc) Worked like a charm, even when I still played in a public setting. But CoS? That's lost from the get-go, I just know it. I consumed way too much comedy vampire content to ever play that with a straight face. I'll try but... God there's so much cheesy bullshit tempting me to go ham.
