/r/hiphopheads has some good lists. [Essential albums](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ewEzXRHj8LGvUB3g9QbnIK_m89I2Q5Y2LzsgqKOG6Xg/edit#gid=1438580468) [Essential mixtapes](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/1bfctw/the_first_essential_mixtape_list/) [Here's a Spotify playlist of classic hip-hop songs.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5YGpNe8zXa31tdYKbNX3jf?si=87bee445c4c44495) Depending on your tastes and what you're familiar with, I might be able to recommend something more specific. Personally, I tend to be of the opinion that everything from like, 1988 and before is pretty hard to listen to. The raps hadn't gotten complex yet, and the beats were all pretty simple and kinda boring. Once you get into the late 80s and early 90s, rhymes started getting way more complex and producers started getting more creative with their beats. Personally, my top 5 classic albums would probably be: Mobb Deep - The Infamous Nas - Illmatic 2Pac - All Eyez on Me Kanye West - The College Dropout Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor
