**Playlist: [Kaldur](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6qnHMJDteEa6W758wzQPeL)** This playlist uses a lot of scandinavian/nordic music to represent a similar culture Kaldur grew up in: very much a harsh, lonely, frozen tundra. **Track 1** establishes a certain uneasiness: promising that the story will be a little bit turbulent. I think the first track is always going to be very important in that regard: especially since these kinds of playlists can move wildly through a number of different emotional states. **Tracks 2-4** properly set the stage of the frozen wilderness that Kaldur lives in, where not much happens, until he meets and falls in love with an elf named Aurora **(tracks 4-6)** and has a beautiful daughter **(track 7)** and settles down to live a simple life as a merchant **(track 8)**. Everything seems to be going well for Kaldur **(track 9)** but it won't last forever **(track 10)**. In particular, I included track 10 here as an emotional segue from the bright, optimisticness of the previous tracks to what is about to follow. It starts off quite calm but eventually decays into dissonance. That's when Kaldur's village is attacked, his wife is murdered, and his daughter is stolen **(track 11)**. He struggles to mourn and to move on **(track 12)**, but eventually, he must leave the burnt ruins of the village-no-more. There is an emotional numbness and coldness to Kaldur **(tracks 13-14)**, but he does eventually find his daughter and learns that his wife is truly gone: reincarnated into a new child **(track 15)**. This information finally gives him some sense of closure, and the knowledge that he can make a new home with his rescued daughter and his newfound adventuring companions **(track 16)**. A lot of this actually extends past the original backstory and into the campaign narrative. Specifically, the campaign started with the attack on his village. This is a good example of how closure in a character's story can be a good time to add closure to the character's playlist. *** **Playlist: [Anijelle](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ieo0dHKfdqiGzxaa1JYe7)** **Track 1** establishes a certain theme for Anijelle I really like: this kind of celtic medieval dance number. I always wanted Anijelle to be a fun, bubbly character that loves to sing and dance and make friends, especially after playing Kaldur the frozen-hearted viking. There's a fair bit of celtic and celtic-inspired music here, which wasn't particularly intentional, but it worked out perfectly, and certain tracks, specifically Peter Crowley's are all such perfect examples of how I imagine Anijelle's 'theme' to be. I really leaned heavily on the titles of the songs as well, to help find what I was looking for. Anijelle does certainly have a "Spirit of Freedom." **Tracks 2-3** also tell the story of her longing to leave her home and explore the world. She felt trapped and caged where she lived. **Track 3** represents the adrenaline and rush of excitement she felt when she did run away from home in the middle of the night without telling anyone. **Track 4** is the sadness of the rainy following day when she realised she never said goodbye to her family and may never see them again. It's a fairly turbulent part of the story. **Track 5** is little bit of both: there is some excitement about the world awaiting Anijelle, and also sadness at her sudden lonliness in a vast, open world. It's also around this point that she becomes destitute and desperately seeks to find food and shelter wherever she can. Eventually, she finds a temple that takes her in and shows pity on her **(track 6)**, and she comes to serve the deity of the temple **(track 7)**, and decides to join the convent, become a nun, and live "A Life of Devotion" **(track 8)**. She has a vision of fire and flames in the night and, knowing that the temple may be destroyed, she feels a calling from the goddess to leave the temple and live her life as a wandering cleric **(track 9)**, which is when she is first blessed by the deity with the power to perform miracles **(track 10)**. There is once again some sadness at the thought of leaving yet another family behind, again without saying goodbye **(track 10)**, but she is once again free to travel and explore, and this time, she has a purpose and a vision **(track 11-12)**. She spends some time following her calling from town to town, healing the sick and injured on an epic journey across the world until she joins with a party of other adventurers **(track 12-15)**. **Track 16** here includes the same musical theme as track 1, as a kind of reprieve, to remind myself that, after all this time, she is finally living the life she always wanted—freely and unhindered. Then **track 17** is kind of like an ending to the playlist, but also a promise of much more to come. If track 16 was the final scene of the backstory, track 17 is the credits, complete with previews of the next chapters in Anijelle's life.
