I think it is good that you are exploring making music. My thoughts on using DAWs for making music will probably ruffle a few feathers. I think DAWs are great tools for writing, capturing, arranging, and mixing audio. However, I think they are awful tools for learning the fundamentals of writing music. Drawing is a good metaphor, it is better to start out with a pencil, and eraser, and some paper if you want to learn the super basic fundamentals of drawing. If you want to practice the proportions of the human body, do you want to do it on paper, or do you want to wade through learning an entire software suite while you are trying to figure out the basics? It is hard enough to draw a bunch of ovals without having to mediate the process through a bunch of additional software tools. Music is very similar. You don't have any understanding of intervals, scales, chords, chord progressions, arrangements, engineering, mixing, and finally, mastering. The DAW gives you tools to accomplish all of those things, but each tool requires an understanding of each of those particular skills. All of those things together are possibly an entire lifetime's work for proper mastery. My advice (as somebody who has toured and released music professionally) is to avoid the DAW for a while and focus on something a hell of a lot more simple. I would start with a cheap acoustic guitar or digital piano and focus on the fundamentals. If you can make something sound good on a $300 used digital piano, it will sound really good once you take it to the DAW and run it though effects. It doesn't matter how good you are with the software if the actual music underneath the production is garbage. It is a lot easier to make two lines of music sound good together when they aren't covered in huge amounts of reverb and delay. The biggest thing, even if you don't follow the advice above, is to make sure you get your butt in the chair and put time in. The more hours you put into the process, the more you will learn and the better you will get. Good Luck! :) Sleep Capsules Ambient Playlist: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0lhd6rCv4u9qVz1tdPkfZP](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0lhd6rCv4u9qVz1tdPkfZP)
