Idk if this helps, but I didn't really listen to music until one day a switch flipped in my head and I haven't been able to stop since. It might be helpful just to spend some time listening to different types of music with him or just asking him to go through a playlist with lots of different stuff on it and see if he can find something he likes. I'm not a guitar teacher though. So Idk if these are actually good ideas. I have this list with a lot of different genres and artists if you think it's a good idea or don't have time to put together a list yourself. It has a little bit of pretty much everything, although it's not guitar centered. https://open.spotify.com/user/snakey465/playlist/12COFjjLCKTO5r7lMXzVti (Also if anyone checks it out and has any recommendations I'm always looking for new stuff to add, particularly German music.) Edit: I realized when I got into music it might have been when I first got an iPod, right when they first started coming out. Maybe talk to his parents about getting him an mp3 player or an iPod so he can listen to some different kinds of music and explore what he likes. Also I realized that some of my favorite music to play is grunge and stuff by the Deftones. It's pretty easy stuff, but I always found it to be really fun to play. Maybe see if you can narrow down what techniques he thinks are fun and find music that has a lot of that?
