No idea if this would be useful to you but I've had a playlist going since 2012 for Complextro. If you sort by date added it's roughly a history of the genre at least in terms of spotify from 2012 onward. There're also some artists on there that are/were smaller and produced some complextro tracks only to never make anything else under that name again, for instance, Farleon, Rabbit Killer, and Tommy Noble. If they never blew up, maybe they would be easier to get a hold of or would have an interesting take on why they stopped making complextro. Later on in the playlist are some artists that are still making complextro like Kermode, Starjunk 95, and MDK. I really like your idea and will definitely want to check out the docu when it's done!
