From personal taste, and just from this year, here are my current favorites in order: 1. Thank You Scientist - Stranger Heads Prevail 2. Haken - Affinity 3. Meshuggah - The Violent Sleep of Reason 4. Dream Theater - The Astonishing (not their best, but a lot of work went into it and there are some solid songs. If you're not familiar with them, start with Images and Words or Scenes from a Memory, one of the best prog metal albums period) 5. Opeth - Sorceress 6. Dust of Nations - Dust of Nations 7. Plini - Handmade Cities (I think their older stuff is better, but it's still solid) 8. Frost - Fallen Satellites (Milliontown is a lot better IMO, but it's older) 9. The Dear Hunter- Act V (forgot about this one that I liked plenty. Thanks /u/themadscientistwho ) There are other relevant ones, but at that point I start liking individual songs more than albums. I'm looking forward to the new Animals as Leaders, though, which will probably take over Opeth. Also worth mentioning is that The Reign of Kindo (more similar to Thank You Scientist and friendlier than everything else on this list) is releasing new music this year as well. They're not prog metal, but they're easy to like from a prog perspective. I'm sure I'm missing some stuff, but this is from memory. If you're interested in listening to other prog-rock/metal stuff, [here is a playlist I've been putting together for some time.](https://open.spotify.com/user/123649683/playlist/1ZwFgI4SCbSjmJWrRVJETv) It's not all metal or straight prog, but I built it to have some music that prog-lovers might like (i.e. The Reign of Kindo, Hiromi, Tigran Hamasyan, Snarky Puppy, Kiev, etc.). Also, visit /r/progmetal. It's one of my favorite subs because people are chill and just want to talk about the music they love. There are a series of posts being built currently that will attempt to subdivide prog metal to make it more approachable, so check out those too.
