As someone who grew up hearing the sounds of UKG, dubstep, and grime, while also being a huge skrillex fan from young, it would have never occurred to me that skrillex would be making og dubstep/140s ever. I definitely saw nods to it with how he played tracks like Dave & AJ Tracey - Thiago Silva, Mala - Changes and Coki & Benga - Night when I last saw him live years ago, or when I saw he had Anti War Dub on his laptop during an IG live. Those things plus a super old interview (probs 2011?) where he explained dubstep used to be alot different (something along the lines of "bunch of dudes in hoodies nodding there heads in a basement") and when he shouted out Croydon during his first Grammy speech, it was clear to see that he definitely knew his shit, unlike many of the copycats out there that just wanted to be him. Never did I think he would make tracks like this tho and it makes me so happy as someone who grew up on, produces, and DJs 140, as well as listening to a shit tonne of it and meeting Mala and seeing him last year twice (once with Skream, Sgt Pokes & Crazy D). This is definitely the best piece of work he's put out in my opinion, and I think these tunes will be timeless, like much of the stuff in the UKs dubstep scene. I'd love to see how this album will influence the scene both here in the UK and the US, whether he'll make more, maybe some collabs?
