Yes they're subgenres. RetroWave is more like about that 80's aesthetic made in music, so like a lot of synths and 80's drums, even more so than in SynthWave which is already pretty retro as it is. DarkWave is the same but on a darker tone, perturbator is generally thought to be a part of that. Other artists you will like: College Miami Nights 1984 Power Glove Com Truise Kavinsky Dance With the Dead If you enjoy SynthWave maybe you will later on start to like VaporWave too. It's a bit of the same but more jazzy and with a japanese /retrogaming aesthetic.
