I think the better question isn't what teenagers are listening to but what are they creating. Because the truth is most people are a little lazy when it comes to music selection and just take whatever is fed down the radio or algorithmic pipeline. That being said, I've been into music production for over a decade and in my opinion, hyperpop is the most interesting music scene right now from the younger generation. It takes all the good elements of pop music, catchy melodies, digestible song lengths, and then it takes a much more exaggerated approach to the production. The FX are more extreme such as delays and distortions. Vocal tuning is more extreme and repitching to different octaves or formant shifting to sound like different genders is very common. The overall approach is a much more DIY bedroom punk feel that is in many ways anti-pop.
