There is a Spotify playist the Growlers put up that has songs that inspired City Club ("Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" is the first song on and "You'll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties" is the last song fyi). [https://open.spotify.com/user/thegrowlersofficial/playlist/39iWN5PJwvutDaz0RfyWPG?si=TmVPMrGVQjmaw7y1M-6DRA](https://open.spotify.com/user/thegrowlersofficial/playlist/39iWN5PJwvutDaz0RfyWPG?si=TmVPMrGVQjmaw7y1M-6DRA) "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" at :09 is the same turnaround as William Onyeabor's "Good Name." It is "Good Name" that the Growlers played live throughout their touring support of City Club, but is a cover, not on the CC album. I am positive this is what you are referencing. That said, Matt/Brooks were influenced by some Nigerian artists, specifically Fela Kuti (check out if you have not, absolutely incredible music) and William Onyeabor and they have said in interviews that "I'll Be Around" and "Rubber & Bone" were the songs that used African music influence...which is really only mimicked African percussion, at best.
