Hello everyone! I’d thought I’d share with you my [Top 50 Albums of the Decade.](https://i.imgur.com/puNAkhc.jpg) Along with the accompanying [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/user/c.samples0122/playlist/3FegqOsTwhzBzrwwGvSz1m?si=oLzxDHpsQjCRPh1atmAskQ) & [Apple Music](https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/top-50-albums-of-the-decade/pl.u-RmWRhDb2J0e) playlists. And I’m gonna go into a little more depth with my Top 10: 1. Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman (2016): There was honestly no other option for my favorite album of the decade. Ariana is at the peak of her pop powers here and it shows. There are so many great tracks and the all compliment her perfectly. From the soaring highs of Into You, Greedy, & Touch It. To the absolute bangers of Side to Side, Everyday, & Bad Decisions. To the beautiful-sounding Sonetimes, Leave Me Lonely, & I Don’t Care. There are 0 skips on this album and it’s a blast to listen to each and every time. 2. Beyoncé - Lemonade (2016): If Dangerous Woman is my favorite album of the decade, then this one is my pick for best album. Beyoncé tells a complete and complex narrative of loss, infidelity, anger, sadness, redemption, & hope in just 12 tracks. Weaving her way across multiple genres & styles, she puts her all into each and every emotion she gives. You all know why it’s here, there’s not much even for me to say about it. 3. Bruno Mars - 24K Magic (2016): I don’t care what any of you have to say, this album is phenomenal. Bruno definitely knows his 80s & 90s R&B and he is having the time of his life. Does this album have a deep statement to make? No. Is it challenging in any way? No. Is Bruno the pioneer of some new massive trend in music? Of course not. Are all of these songs bangers? Absolutely. Not only does Bruno sound great on these songs (which he absolutely does), but all these songs sound fantastic. He pulls from a different style of R&B for each track and they all sound phenomenal. This album was designed to be a fun ride through the music of Bruno’s childhood and it accomplishes exactly that. Go Bruno. 4. Kesha - Warrior (2012): This album is fucking fire. It’s the perfect mix of Electro-Pop party girl Ke$ha & dirty punk rock Kesha. She’s clearly the star of the show here, absolutely oozing charisma & charm. It’s genuinely a shame she doesn’t really dig this era (absolutely for good reason for the record), because these tracks are all great. And like Animal/Cannibal before, it’s not afraid to let Kesha’s emotional side come through too. And man, does it hit like a ton of bricks. It’s fun, rowdy, and hauntingly sad all at once, what’s not to love? 5. 5 Seconds of Summer - Sounds Good Feels Good (2015): Ok first up, the first three tracks on the album are all skips, that’s honestly really unfortunate because the rest of this album fucking rules. One thing that 5SOS has been really fucking great at, in my opinion, is tapping into the deep despair that comes with being a teenager/young adult. Whether it’s a tragic breakup, or being a massive misfit, or having a shifty family life, there’s still this youthful hope that everything will be ok. But the main reason why this album is so far up is the production & composition. Not only are these songs very catchy, the instrumentation is phenomenal. The boys are very clearly at their best when they are rocking out. The drums, the guitars, the strings, it’s all so beautiful. And Luke’s singing is honestly the emotional core for me. He is singing his heart out and he feels it heavily. A genuine slept-on album that I can’t get enough of. 6. Rihanna - Anti (2016): Easily Rihanna’s best album by far. Not only is it cohesive and light on filler, Rihanna fucking nails it on these songs. Exhibiting her pretty massive range in terms of genres & singing styles, it feels like the perfect showcase of Rihanna’s ability to sound perfect on almost any genre. Rihanna really took her time to make this as good as she possibly can, and she knocked it out of the park. An album I come back to again and again and still be satisfied. That Rihanna reign never did let up. 7. Little Mix - Glory Days (2016/2017): The reason this album is in my top ten is because Little Mix are a Goddamn bop factory and I fucking love it. These girls LOVE making pop music and you can hear it. They put their all into every song, even the bad ones and that has carried them a long, long, way. But this album in particular is packed with back-to-Back bops and I haven’t gotten sick of them once. (A note however, please don’t listen to any version of their songs featuring a rapper. They bring the song down several points each and every time.) These ladies became one of the best-selling girl groups of all time and listening to this, it’s very easy to see why. 8. Childish Gambino - Because the Internet (2013): Fun fact, This was the 2nd album i ever listened to in full and that alone bumps this album up a few points, but when I re-listened to the album earlier this year I forgot why I loved it. It’s a genuinely weird album filled with internet references that mask Gambino’s ever-growing anxieties and I fucking love it. Gambino gives pretty standard, albeit impressive as hell, rap performances about the usual topics: money, women, how awesome he his at rapping, etc. but the off-kilter and dark production really do a lot to let the mask slip and see the darkness beneath. It’s equal parts unsettling & chill af and I fucking adore it. 9. Marinas Trench - Ever After (2011): This is how you do bombast power pop correctly. Josh Ramsay (the writer of Call Me Maybe) is easily one of the best male singing voices of the 2010s. One of the few artists who can go toe-to-toe with Ariana, Gaga, & Beyoncé, vocally. His range is unmatched, and he LOVES singing pop music. When I call this band “Power Pop” I mean it. This album is filled to the brim with emotion and they fucking nail it. The album itself is very cohesive and it builds on itself to give a stunning finale that’s easily the best track on the album. I highly recommend you check this album & the band out of you haven’t already. 10. Ed Sheeran - Multiply (2014): I think that this album is the perfect bridge between pop Ed Sheeran & Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. And he compliments himself pretty well here. He adds his little Ed Sheeran quirks in standard pop songs, making them pretty unique from the rest of the pop scene at the time. And he learns that simplicity can go a very long way in his ballads, giving more room for the lyrics to shine through on their own. And he gets to show us his rather impressive range, giving us party songs, angry diss tracks, love ballads, death, family issues, breakups, and heart-crushing sadness. Ed gets a bad rep, which I do understand, but when he’s good, he’s great.
