###**This week’s musical references:** + Yes, the turtle has a stand and also a name. It wasn’t revealed in the original manga. It wasn’t until the art book” JOJO A-GO!GO!” that Araki gave it a name. The name of the turtle is Coco Jumbo and its stand is called Mr. President. These are references to [German Eurodance group Mr. President and their hit song Coco Jamboo.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_-Qtz70_z4) Mr. President released Coco Jamboo in 1996 and it became a hit in many European countries like Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden and Switzerland but it was also really popular in Canada and the US. [It even had a Christmas-themed version.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgOh6vUcjKs) This a funny coincidence but Mr. President has a song called Jojo Action. It would have been hilarious that Araki and DP had chosen that song as Part 5’s ending. I found this song really amusing tbh, I love cheesy 90’s & 00’s songs. Every time I travel by car with my friends and I have to choose music, I always pick the cheesiest ones. I have a playlist in my mp3 or I play them in Youtube if I want a specific one. It’s so much fun. I recently use a Spotify playlist called [European Party Anthems](https://open.spotify.com/user/samantha149/playlist/3XeCGQpe6mgwKX4U9HTXBv?si=8erTxbnUSGqN4PRmWTXVIg), which has many nostalgic songs for European people but Americans won’t probably know many of them. + Prosciutto stand, The Grateful Dead is a reference to [the folk rock band Grateful Dead.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=671AgW9xSiA)They are known for for their live performances of lengthy instrumental jams, and for their devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads". Grateful Dead toured constantly throughout their career, playing more than 2,300 concerts.[93] They promoted a sense of community among their fans, many of whom followed their tours for months or years on end. As a group, the Dead Heads were considered very mellow. "I'd rather work nine Grateful Dead concerts than one Oregon football game", Police Det. Rick Raynor said. "They don't get belligerent like they do at the games". In their early career, the band also dedicated their time and talents to their community, the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco, making available free food, lodging, music, and health care to all. It has been said that the band performed "more free concerts than any band in the history of music". + Pesci’s stand Beach Boy is a reference to [the rock band The Beach Boys.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0spkrwl9Qk&list=PLW79q83govkXJJBEnMnlvJ7B1b3xPosvO&index=1) The Beach Boys began as an early garage band led by Brian. In 1963, the band gained national prominence with various top-ten singles reflecting the southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance, with songs like [“Surfin’ U:S:A”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibHLTH2icVw), [“I Get Around”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wREBD2og5iY) or [“Catch A Wave”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLgWbH-qhVo), this music aesthetic was later dubbed the "California Sound". After 1964, they abandoned beachgoing themes for more personal lyrics and ambitious orchestrations. Brian Wilson suffered a mental breakdown while touring and he stopped performing live with the group in an effort to concentrate solely on songwriting and studio production. The result of that was Pet Sounds. The album raised the group's prestige as rock innovators and established the band as symbols of the counterculture era. Pet Sounds is regarded by musicologists as an early concept album that advanced the field of music production, introducing non-standard harmonies and timbres and incorporating elements of pop, jazz, classical, and the avant-garde. The album could not be replicated live and was the first time a group departed from the usual small-ensemble electric rock band format for a whole LP. Combined with its innovative music, the album was crucial to the development of progressive/art rock, and it brought more attention to psychedelic music in the mainstream. It helped elevate rock as a genre for listening, rather than dancing. After finishing Pet Sounds, the band started recording Smile but it was left unfinished with over fifty hours of music recorded over a ten-month period. Afterward, there were many attempts to finish the original Smile tracks, most of which were derailed by Wilson, who became psychologically traumatized by the album's difficult sessions. Over the next four decades, few of the original Smile tracks were officially released, and the project came to be regarded as the most "legendary" unreleased album in the history of popular music. --- Do you want to listen to all this fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place?
