[I spend a lot of time making strongly themed playlists on Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/user/aleatorystory?si=jDmeQS7YRpq_EoDVT1YC6Q). I consider track-to-track transitions greatly. I try to stick to the themes as best as I can, through both the textures of the sound and the words of the lyrics. The only thing I don't do that you've outlined is create a more tight arrangement of songs - most of mine exceed 1.5 hours or so. I do have a few shorter, tighter playlists, but I like really epic playlists so mine tend to be longer. I don't mean this in an elitist way, but I haven't come across anyone else on Spotify who has done as many strongly themed playlists as me. Yet, I don't have a huge amount of followers (my biggest playlist has 139). Maybe this is because I don't publicize my playlists a lot, except for the occasional mention on Reddit. But I notice other playlists also in the indie genre with tends of thousands of followers, like Compact Cassette. It's a good playlist, but it's the total opposite of what I do. It's a living playlist that is updated weekly. Tracks are removed and new tracks are added. It's not really made to be played in any particular order or any theme. It's just new indie music you should check out. I notice these types of playlists are much more popular than themed playlists. People these days aren't really "album listeners" - they are into individual songs. Shuffle works just fine for them - they're not really looking for a track-by-track curated experience. Or at least that's what it seems to me. I mostly make playlists for myself because I like listening to them. When I'm in a particular mood, I'm able to load up one of my playlists that fits the bill. I get a sense of familiarity with them and their track order much like an album. But I also have a sense of creative fulfillment in making the playlists. I love so much music, and it's fun to find songs with lyrical or thematic similarities and arrange them together. I also do some genre-specific introductory playlists as well. Here are some of the playlists I've made: Creative Themes: * [A Love From Outer Space](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3kt6ohK3VAEHwqNIWqUdjX?si=w0L-8TSVQVuLDuJPq7Vmxw). Songs about both space and love. * [Spellword and Swordplay](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/05SC2HS9caswCu9lZKxJER?si=TWrfD-8kSISf9a-Qk4Ml4w). This is a quirky, indie fantasy story of swords and magic. * [CityNightLights](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4SJh2SNE1WxL1jSbdUYjPU?si=yBE3L1usStObHN16zWwTog). Songs about night-time, including driving at night and going out at night. * [The Moon Stares Back](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6gMQXebyzDqgi1zmILjEBR?si=uPbwHzmVRzqA7tTrGuw9ww). Moon songs, particularly those that have a bit of mystical or introspective vibe. Especially built around The Microphones/Phil Elverum. * [Pu-pu Platter](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0bLXHIxVaEs6e5uuo4NpvL?si=f0S6GQ50Tfy1FqT8md1cUg).
