I said I liked the Beatles. He prompted, "everybody likes the Beatles, what else?" I replied, "ABBA, David Bowie, and E.L.O. are okay. But I know what kind of music I really like, and it does not exist." I was seriously bummed and thought there might be something mentally wrong with me. Silly pubescent me. In 1978, bam, I discovered Blondie. I thought, "Now that's the kind of music I like!" It was new. It was New Wave. The whole *Parallel Lines* album was like a religious experience to me. Blondie is still near and dear to my heart. In 1979, I went on a trip alone from America to visit a friend in the Netherlands, where I saw a video music show on TV, and one of the songs impressed me greatly: Dave Edmunds' cover of "Girls Talk". In 1980, a music "dance party" program came to a local TV station, and it played a lot of Adam & The Ants and similar. Around 1981 or 1982, a new wave radio station started, and I got to hear more Duran Duran and Depeche Mode than I could stand, but I still like them. Finally, in 1983, I went off to university and became a college radio DJ. I remember that the biggest station hit for September 1983 was Siouxsie and the Banshees' cover of "Dear Prudence", which is a nice way to round out where we started with the Beatles.
