They are celebrities with massive platforms and they are members of a band that makes music under a genre created by black artists. The disappointment that fans are feeling due to their silence is 100% warranted. Smaller artists have spoken up and it's really telling that bigger artists only care about retaining 'normalcy' in their lives instead of using their platforms to call for an end to racist police violence and show support for the people taking this fight to the streets. People are saying that 'there's no right answer' or 'they're afraid of losing fans because of controversy'. There IS a right answer and that right answer is that we collectively must work together to end the racist police violence that makes the news week in and week out. If there's fans of the band who think that the racist police violence we're seeing is okay or that this is some kind of debate, it seriously makes me wonder why the guys would be okay with having the support of those kinds of people. [Sydney Dolezal (Doll Skin) summed it up nicely](https://twitter.com/sydney_dolezal/status/1266403455259688960). But do not fear, the attention we're putting on the guys CAN be spent elsewhere. Like checking out [this](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3rRPYJAj6AFo3lE6sr3daU?si=-pRaVD6rRKO9GUKy7SX52g) playlist of alternative bands that have POC in their lineup, or looking at [this](https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co) webpage for places to donate and petitions to sign. That being said, holding people accountable is important. Especially people with large public platforms. All those signs you see that read 'white silence is white violence'? Those don't just apply to white classmates and white co-workers, they apply to your white faves too.
