I've been living in an English-speaking world since I was 13, and I haven't lived with my parents since I was 18, so it takes extra effort to keep my Russian from fading. I read -- a lot. There's value in re-reading, too -- there are a few Russian books I re-read every year ("Мастер и Маргарита" + письма Булгакова, автобиографическая проза Цветаевой, сборник переводов Маршака, "Старая крепость" Беляева, "Детство. В людях. Мои университеты." Горького). Re-reading is valuable because when you know the material really well, you can focus on other aspects of writing: choice of vocabulary and grammar, turns of phrase, why a particular sentence is written the way it is. I watch modern Russian media, in particular interviews with various cultural figures on Youtube. The long-form interview genre is very popular in Russia right now, and there are a lot of shows on Youtube: "[Дудь](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMCgOm8GZkHp8zJ6l7_hIuA/videos)", "[А поговорить](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp2J7GRxQ36QLqW4ReLLt5g/videos)?", "[Еще не Познер](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNRYbltJXhf6DepS26-uSbQ)", well and "[Познер](https://www.1tv.ru/shows/pozner/vypuski)" too (he started it all). These shows feature a lineup of interesting characters, and their speech is quite diverse: from rappers, to youthful standup comedians, to politicians, writers, scientists -- you get a broad range to learn from. I also listen to good Russian songs with complex lyrics: I do that while I work, and it helps keep my mind attuned to Russian speech. Here's my playlist of favorite Vysotsky songs, for example: he was a skillful language master, and you can learn a lot of amazing turns of phrase from him: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4KEyNg6iLo6sZzq9ENFZfy?si=lxmX8dTTQweEx-XLduK6hg](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4KEyNg6iLo6sZzq9ENFZfy?si=lxmX8dTTQweEx-XLduK6hg) Don't be afraid of Russian: send your friends and parents silly emails, write yourself weird notes, play with the language. Hang out on this subreddit and try to answer questions best you can, or ask some. It'll come together :)
