**Porcupine Tree (and Steven Wilson in general)**: I finally got around to listening to their music over the last couple of weeks, and I am absolutely in love. In particular, I've been listening a lot to [Stupid Dream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NrhKM3G8Mg&list=PLv1dZ-_qFJw2k3dKBhZzHS5riYHsk1xHI) and [Deadwing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMEwM3YHiME&list=PL9coQz2INoJckw9376Ha4W0HP7NC-E9Br). I get really introspective and nostalgic when I listen to these records. I must admit I'm rather new to progressive metal, but the sound sometimes reminded me a lot of [Pale Communion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keTvimbPOCU&list=PLrBCN9J9PbkkYkx9opCbyJeD3pvZwby-S) by Opeth - which is another album I really enjoy. The sound is complex and interesting to me the whole way through. I want to listen with full attention, and I feel like I am deeply invested in the sounds and the lyrical content throughout the album. I also highly enjoy Wilson as a solo artist, in particular his album [The raven that refused to sing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxLrGJfRPJU). Every single record on this album is a masterpiece, in my opinion. There are wilder, funkier songs like Luminol and Holy Drinker, but also melancholic and contemplative songs like Drive Home. This album takes me on a journey every time I listen to it, and I never get bored of it. **Frank Zappa**: After discovering a [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/user/11158467104/playlist/4ThnihR58h1mDZ1qZKlGDW?si=qMojIe25QCKS-rkWWbUlJg) featuring his guitar solos, I suddenly fell down a Zappa rabbit hole. I hadn't really taken an interest in his stuff before, because it felt too weird, but now it suddenly clicked for me. I've had [Muffin man](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMwY49vTBk0) on repeat every day for the last few weeks, it is such a funny, epic song - I absolutely adore the lyrics of this song. I feel like Zappa is one of those artist I could keep researching and exploring for a long time. His sound and vision is just so unique. I've also listened to some Captain Beefheart's stuff, and the obvious next step for me is to dive deeper into Trout Mask Replica (but I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet). **Ariana Grande**: I found myself missing that simple, happy pop song that I can listen to when I'm too tired or sad for anything else. And although I don't listen much to her, I actually really like [thank u, next](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl1aHhXnN1k). The song is about Ariana being grateful for what past relationships has taught her in life. It actually has a rather stoic, soothing message - at least that is what my recently-dumped 22 year-old girl brain is telling me. She reminds me to keep my head held high and to be grateful -- and she does it with a sick beat and lofty vocals. **CAN**: I've tried to explore more krautrock recently, and I've really been digging CAN's stuff. I love their drums and the strange tempo in songs like [Vitamin C](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmN9oHa3ZIQ) and [I'm so green](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUVEnXw8zH0) \-- they make my heart beat faster just by listening. I've also enjoyed their more space-y and psychedelic stuff like [don't turn the light on, leave me alone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ziy2T2F8Yg) and [mother sky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDBpZdQNp9E).
