I got my fiancée into emo (she’s mostly into pop and indie pop) by starting with emo-adjacent indie rock (turnover’s peripheral vision; slaughter beach, dog; the front bottoms; oso oso; etc) and then moving onto Midwest and revival stuff and going from there. She rly likes Charmer, Michael Cera Palin, Movements, Sincere Engineer, and Origami Angel. I’ve noticed that the most accessible stuff for fans of pop music isn’t really the “mall emo”-era stuff anymore, it’s the newer stuff that blends sounds across genres.
