So there are a lot of reasons for me personally. I'll try to keep it brief, but no promises. For one, there's this sense of teenage adventure that their earlier material focused that a lot of people can either relate to directly or imagine themselves taking part in (i was the latter since i was under a strict household). The band's later material has taken a more mature approach to different aspects of life such as politics, climate change, drug addiction, the effects the internet has on society. Stuff that is honestly interesting to hear when put against a pop music canvas. The 1975 is also a very visual band. There are aesthetics associated with each of their records that is expressed through album art, music videos, photoshoots, that sorta stuff. Their self-titled has a very bleak, punk vibe to it. Their 2nd album "I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it" can be associated with bright neon colors and pastels. Their 3rd album (and pt. 1 of the Music For Cars Era) "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" is very stark and digital. Their 4th upcoming record (pt. 2 of Music For Cars Era) "Notes On A Conditional Form" has a very retro 90s vibe to it. The genres the band associates itself with have progressively become more experimental and weirder. They've mastered the modern rendition of 80s synth-pop, and experimented with ambient pop, electronica, jazz, bubblegum pop, 90s pop-rock, post-punk, alt-country, hip-hop. And honestly considering their next record has literally 22 songs on it who knows lol. Their lead singer is Matty Healy who is quite the interesting frontman and occasionally appears on this very subreddit. I've made a playlist I use to help people get into the band. It consists of a few songs from every era they've had (EP's > The 1975 > I like it when you sleep... > A Brief Inquiry... > Notes...): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Y1rCkOcnAj4kBmHYo0ptP?si=J0088D8uSRu30SWnxe3THA Anyways hope you enjoy the concert.
