OK, done work...can explain this properly now. 😉 First and formost, links! * [iPetitions.com/petition/sloan4CMHF](https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/sloan4CMHF) This is the link to the petition itself. On it, there's further links to their socials, as well as the socials off my fellow fan friends' podcasts. * [My personal Sloan playlist on Spotify (Jay & Chris & Patrick & Andrew)](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5is67zI0zfyn5WBs2M6k7h?si=4MZY6Y9MSpyiwQAQf5x9vw&utm_source=copy-link) Because I figure everyone should at least know the music a tiny bit before they sign the petition. I recommend listening to a good few tracks for reasons I'll explain shortly. So, Sloan got their start in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1991; and since 1991, they have always consisted of Jay Ferguson, Chris Murphy, Patrick Pentland and Andrew Scott. Not one line up change has been made in this time. All four members are absolute craftsmen power-pop songwriters and, within the band, they sing their own songs. Every songwriter comes with his own set of influences, which creates this incredible mix of all the eras of rock into one. The comment that someone close to me recently said is that a Sloan record is a "desert island cheat code", as it almost sounds like you're listening to four amazing bands in one. The only difference between Sloan and some of the bigger names in Canadian music is a matter of name recognition. Sloan started as an independent band (creating their own label, Murderecords), but were signed quite quickly into their career - they were going to be billed as Canada's answer to Nirvana. They didn't stay signed for long, however. They had their chance, but rightfully shunned label pressure when they were told to re-record *Twice Removed* (an album still considered to be one of the greatest Canadian albums of all time) to better suit a grunge audience. They actually broke up for a hot minute because the pressure was a bit much. So they never achieved any kind of label support, but being the BAMFs they are, they reformed, dusted themselves off, recorded *One Chord to Another* independently (an album usually featured on the same lists as *Twice Removed*), created their own sustainable business model (four individual songwriters, yes, but all songwriting royalties are split equally between everyone) and 30 years into it are still creating the most consistently solid bodies of work out of any rock band either here or internationally. Bonus, they have a live show that melts faces from the power of the rock. Sloan basically created the Canadian independent music scene as we know it through their absolute quality music. Problem is, as far as popularity numbers are concerned, although they've had a slew of radio hits and have a massive cult following, international-Nickelback-level-popular they are not and are often forgotten in the conversation - so I started the conversation myself. I've got the petition, which has been shared by a few blogs so far, but I haven't got any response from some of the major music publications yet. And this is where I'm at now. So if you're a music fan and like what you hear from my arguments/my Spotify playlist (I swear, you're going to want to listen to more than one song!), please sign the petition! If you're an actual fan or previously knew of them with a story to tell, please leave a comment so I can share it on my corresponding Instagram!
