After learning for a few years in school and online I can suggest you a few things. First, find a way how grammar works. The internet should help you in in some way. Start learning the composition of verbs, the der,die,das,die table and know how to use it. Same applies to ein,eine,einer,einen table. Know how to swap past tense verbs. The same should apply with modal verbs. Second, read books. Literally translate any word or sentence you don't know and write it down a note book. I suggest you to start with Gregg's Tagebuch (aka The First of a wimpy kid) novel. Reading books will slowly progress with the knowledge of vocab and I think it's the best way to progress. It's hard in the Beginning but this will change significantly the more you learn. Thirdly, blend into the social media. You should look at the content that Germans look at everyday. You may not understand everything or anything at first, but youist start listening to the German into your ears. I suggest you following ZDF Heute or Taggeschau on Instagram and internet. They are two popular new channels that combine quick facts and news snapshots with actual German speakers and sentences. Listen to the weather forecast too. Easy vocab to learn and pick up. Listening to music should help too. Download an app Dictionaries such as dict.cc or Pons.com will help you. And be sure to use Deepl as your translator (other than google translate).
