So the HD58X, I really love these headphones, sound overall is balanced, but they are punchy, they have some good impact in the sub-bass region for an open headphone which is very interesting. Bass: Listening to drum kicks you can feel the impact. SHP9500 really lacks here, with EQ it can have some punch as well but it just can't compare. The headphone extends well to the low end for an open back. Mids: Even with this bass presence they don't feel bloated, low end never invades mids for me, mids are very good, timbre in instruments like acoustic guitars is more realistic on the HD58X compared to the SHP9500 and vocals are very intimate you feel like the microphone in songs like Meditation by Stacey Kent (how I love her voice). Highs: Highs are very present and crispy but unlike the SHP9500, sibilance occurs less (still happens, I can feel some grain in the HD58X with some voices/instruments). If anyone is interested, this is one of the playlists I use use to test, I gathered these songs from multiple posts and forums through the years, I'm updating the playlist all the time: [https://open.spotify.com/user/12149326304/playlist/5wEf1GzX2WZIOMy7J4x3mP?si=mi9CB4aCQ46oBuI1rtdsqQ](https://open.spotify.com/user/12149326304/playlist/5wEf1GzX2WZIOMy7J4x3mP?si=mi9CB4aCQ46oBuI1rtdsqQ) Conclusion: In the end I really like the HD58X, listening to jazz is amazing, you feel drums kicks or bass notes but in a refined controlled way making the music more enjoyable, realistic mids with good timbre and intimacy, crispy highs that present detail without sibilance. The HD58X improves compared to the SHP9500 in almost every way, but the difference isn't that crazy, the SHP9500 were great for $50 as well. I can see the critics some people have, not everyone likes this sub-bass and I can imagine that the mids on the HD650 are more forward and with better timbre finally there is some grain in the highs but on the other hand I know people who think the HD650 is shouty in the mids and lack treble/sub-bass so I don't see the HD58X as an inferior headphone, they are very good for $149.
