Welcome everyone to the official start of the **/r/NFL Christmas Classics Challenge!** This is the third straight year that we’ve done this, and the last two times, reception and engagement has been super positive, so we’re bringing it back for a third year. We’ve got 192 songs to look at, and by the end, one will be crowned as the greatest Christmas song of all-time. **[THE SPREADSHEET]( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_oxzHsJBlTLKlvC4V-kP8rzXO-tXUGXRGJ7HZ8SLj90/edit?usp=sharing)** If you participated in the last two tournaments, you know that we broke each song down into different conferences. Well, this year, to keep things fresh, we’re scrapping that. It’s a brand-new format. What I did was group each song into one of three pods, based off of the conference they were in or would be in, if they are a new entry (Christmas carol, song from the 1950s, song from the 2000s, etc.). Then, I chose one song from each of the pods and created 64 groups of three. With group play, each song gets two games. Only the winner of each group advances to the knockout round of 64. From there, we go to a single-elimination bracket, where the seeds are determined by record, and then ties are broken by how many percentage points each song gets in the group stage. As an example, if a song won both of its group games with 90% of the vote, they would have 180 points, and would be higher in the seeding than a song that won both of its games with 80% of the vote. That leads to the next question- what do the groups look like? Here are the 64 groups, where the winner of each will advance to the bracket. Everything will take place during a weekday. Group play will start tomorrow, and will run from 12/1-12/11. I’m saving 12/14 for any possible tiebreakers. With regards to the knockout round, we’ll do the Round of 64 on 12/15 and 12/16, the Round of 32 on 12/17, the Sweet 16 on 12/18, the Elite Eight on 12/21, and the Final Four on 12/22. The final will be held on December 23, with the winning song being announced on Christmas Eve. If we don’t need to do any tiebreakers, then we’ll start the knockout round on 12/14, and just move everything up one day so that the final is held on December 22. I’m really looking forward to what happens this year.
