You don't seem to know where to look. 1. German news is really really good. I have a hard time watching American talking heads these days because Tagesschau and others are just way more factual and sober and aren't trying to be sensationalist or entertaining. I simply cannot go back to watching pundits scream at each other on CNN. Plus, Coronavirus is actually a great occasion to try to watch foreign language news, since you have some context for what is going on and they'll use a lot of the same terminology over and over again. 2. There is lots of great music in Germany today. I admit, it can be difficult to sift through the Schlager and Schlager-lite to to find it, especially if you aren't actually in Germany. But the good stuff is there and it is clever and catchy and cool. Here is a playlist I made of [german-language indie music](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6R0ELLZcz89ijmN4hV5Gg6) if you're interested. 3. There are some pretty awesome novels coming out of contemporary Germany. Especially from women authors... Julie Zeh, Alina Bronsky, Nino Haratischwili, to name a few that I've read and been blown away by recently. Julie Zeh's *Unterleuten* was also made into a [ZDF miniseries](https://www.zdf.de/serien/unterleuten) that was pretty damn good. German film productions of German novels are, in general, well-done. 4. Podcasts are booming here. Want True Crime? Listen to *Zeit Verbrechen*. Want scandal, banter, and sex? Listen to *Paardialogie*. Want pop culture, humor, and music? Listen to *Fest & Flauschig*. Want science and public policy? Listen to *Mal Angenommen.*
