\*Blood & Sand\* \- 1 1/2 oz Blended Scotch \- 1/2 oz Cherry Heering \- 3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth \- 1/2 oz Orange Juice \- 1/2 oz Lemon Juice The day after trying a Penicillin I bought my first bottle of Scotch. I loved everything about that drink and soon wanted to explore more Scotch based cocktails but then came across the Blood & Sand. It was awful, completely unbalanced, and for a drink that had ingredients I loved it tasted bland. For this version I not only played with the ratios of the drink but I also added much needed lemon juice to the mix. Before every ingredient had sweetness without any acid to balance it out. I also used Punt e Mes for the sweet vermouth which adds a bitterness to the drink that lengthens it nicely. Continuing our month of dark/spooky music is this mix of riff heavy doom psych. For fans of Black Sabbath, nightwalkers, and anyone that’s ever drawn a pentagram.
