>Similar to Neutral Milk Hotel * [Andrew Jackson Jihad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-Nrb-bI7fM) definitely has that yell-sing type of vocals, although he's less poetic and more facetious in his lyrics. The genre of folk punk revival is full of similar artists, although it's not my forte. * [Beirut](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X61BVv6pLtw) will be closer instrumentally, but the vocals are a bit softer. * [The Mountain Goats](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm-NW1RwPY8)' John Darnielle sometimes hits the passion of Jeff Mangum. >loud/abrasive/lofi indie rock that isn't My Bloody Valentine/Car Seat Headrest/The Unicorns I don't know where to start. In my mind these are all very different artists. MBV's the shoegaze gateway drug. Car Seat Headrest is more emo-influenced indie singer-songwriter. But by their nature of dissonnance, many of these artists also cross into noise rock, hardcore, etc. The Unicorns is more quirky indie pop/rock influenced by 60s/70s pop experimentation. Tons of stuff out there similar to all three. Here is a sampling, and if you let me know what you like, I can direct you more in that direction: Shoegaze (I have a [massive playlist](https://open.spotify.com/user/aleatorystory/playlist/6w7g8aNgO6pMLXWb0mhBg5) but here are some favorites): * [Slowdive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2INLBsRYVBs) * [Ringo Deathstarr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnwdlTflHLs) * [Nothing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9UIdlXhrBQ) * [Westkust](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFBJu7bliZY) * [Pinkshinyultrablast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bcnwu3lh1No) * [No Joy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ8H_6DOpf0) * [Cheatahs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFNZK_gZpUo) * [Wray](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaCFdHJjBdM) * [Pity Sex](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL_212Ts8ZA) Loud/Abrasive/Lo-Fi * [Cloud Nothings](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxeNn_O5u5E) * [Hop Along](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIPAEclVg-Y) * [Los Campesinos!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEd7YFu5xM8) * [Parquet Courts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACj-F63GK_M) * [Cymbals Eat Guitars](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuP4y0Dfyyk) * [Guantanamo Baywatch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRgH1aMrr6A) * [Mitski](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAX4sckx5l0) * [Diet Cig](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR-3Rdao0Js) * [Makthaverskan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fsDfn8Hz_w) * [The Halo Benders](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH9g62oKzNI) ([Beat Happening](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvYt1tHvJu0)+[Built to Spill](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owNtZIn7L4A)) * [Xiu Xiu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH9PKIZEoqU) Similar to the Unicorns * [The Microphones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Sgq8l1m9W0&t=153s) (mentioned elsewhere in the thread, comes highly recommended along with Mount Eerie although his most recent album his so tragically depressing it might not be a good entry to his music) * [Islands](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq3-98XJCfw), the follow-up project to The Unicorns * [Menomena](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crvv47_MTK0) * [The Fiery Furnaces](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye0nmlCC2W8) * [The Olivia Tremor Control](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6hkVXpQYYg) / [Circulatory System](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_jidcdzXuU) * [The Dodos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brGHyx163pg) * [Born Ruffians](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rq5JJnPWjg) * [Tapes 'n Tapes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeAPKmJlL24)
