A softer, easier metal to get into would be either Nu-metal or hair metal. Nu-metal is a combination of traditional metal and other genres. E.g. Skindred is reggae, punk, hip hop and metal. (They're from Wales). Hair metal... Think motley cru or the darkness. My personal favourite sub genres are Viking metal (korpiklani), pirate metal (Alestorm) but, above all else, I LOVE scream metal. (Pantera, sepultura, machinehead) My desert island songs are "30/30-150" by stonesour, "in ashes they shall reap" by hatebreed, and "American high" by machinehead.
