> I need to know if there are people out there that have had success getting through this dry drunk stage without this Alcoholics Anonymous bow down to a higher power structure. Im 3 yr dry and never went to AA and basically just did it at home. My only support group was reddit. Shit was pretty rough until about year 2 or year 2.5. Right where youre at (1.5 yrs) was probably the roughest psychologically. I was in a bad mood most of the time. Real big pain in the fucking ass. And actually just straight up hell on earth. The big game changer for me was listening to heavy metal and lifting weights at home. I only have 2 light weights. Ive never been a meathead or workout guy before this. Lifting weights gets brain chemicals moving around and stress out. Jogging can help too. Cycling (which I love) only helped me a little. The way I see it is I spent years fucking up my brain. So then it takes years for the brain to heal. And the "trip back to normal" is no fun. But it does get better. Now at 3yr dry it's way better than 1.5 yrs. Its not disney land, and I still have some bad days. But I have way less of them, and they arent as bad as back then. That shit is other-worldly. This boring shit below truly changed my life and without it I cant imagine what kind of mess Id be. - step 1 : listen to heavy metal every day or almost every day - step 2 : put in the headphones and walk jamming out your preferred metal - step 3 : lift weights several times a week. nothing heavy. something you can lift 10 or 20 reps. then do like 3 sets of that, or more. listening to heavy metal helps me get out the psychological stress. lifting helps me get out the physical stress. has been a total game changer for me. and if I stop either for a week or so things start to go down hill. ----- Band suggestions : Slipknot, Korn, Hatebreed, Sepulturua (Kairos or Against CD), Harms Way, Varials, Boundaries, Kublai Khan TX, Knocked Loose, Jesus Piece, END, Leeched Heavy bass drums.
