Oh man. This is the sort of question that gets music nerds to rush off to the computer excitedly yelling "I've totally got something for this!" Here's precisely one hour of examples: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7rPcOlcs3mK1P1thvziPrG?si=j20f8sg3TP-2-ArX6gh_Nw Highlights - Max Richter, *On The Nature of Daylight* - really, really moving song; see also Aphex Twin, *Avril 14th* and The Album Leaf, *Window* - Kurt Vile, *Pretty Pimpin'* - God, I love the arpeggio in this song (the rolling guitar riff throughout) nearly as much as I like the self-loathing - Arctic Monkeys, *Do I Wanna Know* - probably only because they use the phrase "spilling drinks on my settee" in the song - Joe Jackson, *Steppin' Out* - midway through this song there's a two-tone beep that has nothing to do with the surrounding melody; I have to make sure I hear that beep or I have to play the song all over again. This is the song that made my wife realize ADHD wasn't just being forgetful. - The Pixies, *Wave of Mutilation* - "Cease to exist, given my goodbyes..." I listened to this on repeat while I was in training in the military, till it became a sort of a joke - Explosions in the Sky, *First Breath After Coma* (really, the whole album *The Earth is not a Cold, Dead Place*) - I lost a friendship due to this album. We were traveling up to the Canadian Maritimes by car from NYC, and I played this album on repeat for three days. My friend finally snapped that I needed to stop torturing him with all these random noises. I did the same thing to the album *Tiny Cities Made of Ashes*, by Sun Kil Moon, on a roadtrip through Big Sur, and the Khruangbin album *Con Todo El Mundo* while moving to Colorado. - Sigur Ros, *HoppĂpolla* - really, I overplay everything Sigur Ros and Radiohead release, but this one is one I have repeated over and over again for the last 20 years or so - Bon Iver, *Holocene* - any song that I use to deal with emotional issues tends to get heavy rotation for me; this and REM's *Leaving New York* were big repeats for me - Peter Gabriel's cover of *My Body is a Cage* by Arcade Fire - there's a version of this on YouTube that plays over scenes from *Children of Men*. [Here it is](https://youtu.be/bJwiLFhVlCM). It is brilliantly apocalyptic.
